Texting while driving is more dangerous than driving drunk.

The Dangers of TEXTING

Texting while driving is riskier than driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

The Dangers of DWT

Forget DWI. The big new traffic-safety issue is DWT: Driving While Texting.

One-fifth of experienced adult drivers in the United States send text messages while driving.

In 2008 almost 6,000 people were killed and a half-million were injured in crashes related to driver distraction.

At any given time during daylight hours in 2008, more than 800,000 vehicles were driven by someone using a hand-held cell phone.

4 out of every 5 accidents (80%) are attributed to distracted drivers this includes TEXTING. In contrast, drunk drivers account for roughly 1 out of 3 (33%) of all accidents nationally.

Texting while driving is about 6 times more likely to result in an accident than driving while intoxicated.

People who text while driving are 23% more likely to be in a car accident.

A study of dangerous driver behavior released in January 2007 by Nationwide Mutual Insurance Co. found that of 1,200 surveyed drivers, 73% talk on cell phones while driving. The same 2007 survey found that 19% of motorists say they text message while driving.

Texting while driving is just as, if not more, dangerous than driving drunk not only for the person driving, but for all people on road. Think about it. Is ANY text worth your life or the life of someone else? Texting while driving increases your risk of a crash by 20 times. So still wanna text while driving?

texting should stop while driving

I think all cops should start writing tickets out for texting while driving a car. Someone can get killed.

I completely agree people should not text and drive it causes alot of problems and can be very dangerous to the person in the vehicle and everyone around them.
I am really against texting and driving. Many fatal accidents have occurred from people doing this. Each second you take your eyes off the road to send a text shows that you have little respect for your own life and the lives of others. I think it is extremely irresponsible.

Texting is the devil

We have to stop this nonsense. But really what can you do? How many cops are going to be able to tell if your texting while your driving. Lets start using are brains people if your eyes arent on the road then your in trouble.

We all have been guilty of this crime at one time or another. However, there may be that one time that while texting while driving you may end up killing someone. Please be careful out there and limit your texting to a minimum if you can. If its that important call the person instead.

Talk -vs- Text

I used to text while I would drive and eventually I learned my lesson. I was lucky enough not to hurt anyone or to do severe damage to my vehicle, but I don't do it anymore. I can understand why people would get upset if your talking on the phone, but Idon't think that it is as bad as looking up and down and trying to have a converstaion by typing. I still think that is safer to talk than test.

I Agree

I Believe that texting on the phone while driving should be a ticket. I don't know how they could monitor it, but I'm sure they could come up with a way. Texting on a phone is way more dangerous than being on the phone because you're looking away from the road.

Texting while driving.

I think that texting while driving should be a crime more than talking on a phone. There is no need to look away from the road to hit a couple of buttons on your phone. Texting is suppose to be convenient for people not a hazard.

Don't text or even answer your phone while driving.

I strongly agree with the people should not be allow to text and drive. Because they are not just hurting themselves but they are hurting the other drivers.

Guilty as charged...lol

I never truly thought bout how dangerous this is till I was reading this. Its truly amazing. I too am very guilty of texting while driving. I have caught myself many times almost rearending the vehicle ahead of me. I use to be able to text without looking at my phone, but since i have changed phones, its not that easy...lol. I think that its a good thing they have made texting for semi-truck drivers illegal, but as for regular vehicle drivers, I'm a lil unsure as to how I feel with the poll question at hand. But for now, I am "GUILTY AS CHARGED" for texting while driving.
I agree that texting while driving should be a crime. Sometimes, even talking on a cell phone while you are driving can be extremely dangerous. I have seen drivers (both men and women) talking on a cell and paying no attention whatsoever. I have stopped an accident from happening because I was paying attention and the other driver (texting and/or talking) was not. And the driver kept right on going with no idea that I had just kept that person from being in an accident..... But some drivers think he/she is not at fault.... Wake up, people!! We are all guilty. What did we do before we had cell phones and texting???? We survived just fine... Pay attention, drivers...

lolz

I agree that people should not be texting while driving, although I do it. Most everyone ends up doing it every now and then. I once read an article where a girl was texting while walking home from school, and fell into an open manhole. Yes, that happened while walking. Driving requires all of your senses to be focuses on the task at hand. I don't know how easily a law like that could be enforced, but do agree somehting needs to be done.

What is the need to text while driving?

I honestly think it is a lot safer to drive and talk on the cell phone then text and driving. i personally don't like talking on the phone while driving unless it is an emergency but i don't see where you would have to text some one in case of emergency if it the important call them. I have almost been hit a few times on the interstate by people that have to text and drive. I think they just need to focus on the road more then on their phones.

Stop texting while driving!

I like to text. But common sense should tell us that we shouldn't text while driving. Unfortunately, common sense is not that common. So our lawmakers might have to come up with something that will be a deterrent.

texting while driving is very dangerous

I don't personaly drive but my ex use to text while driving, he would swerve all over the road and finally i had to start taking his phone away from him just to ensure a safe ride to where ever we were going..

damn

i text............while driving........guess i quit.

Texting while Driving!

I think having cell phones in cars was a big mistake from the beginning. So many people have died from stupidity of people using their phones while driving. I think if you need something in your vehicle for "emergencies only" than there should be some kind of sensor button you could push like in the new vehicles now ...OnStar....to get assistance. I understand technology keeps pushing us further and further ahead but some things you just have to leave alone for common sake.

Texting is fine when you are relaxed at home but not while driving.
All drivers need to be placed on 'notice' that there is a zero
tolerance to use these devices while driving on the road.
Keep this in mind, be a responsible driver and just pull over if you
need to text.

Texting while driving...

I absolutely love this blog . It has a lot of shocking information and I can relate to this as I have lost a loved one in a car accident related to this subject. I agree that it should be a crime. I mean why do you want to risk everyone elses life just to text someone what time you will meet them or to tell them u love them. If you really think about it you may not have that opportunity to do that. If you look at the way people drive now no one really pays attention. There are red light runners, texters, and general people that don't care about anyone but themselves. A year or so a go it was everyone complaining about the 60+ age people causing wrecks because of eyesight failure. Now what has to be done to stop the texting while driving. Be considerate to others on the road don't text and drive.

Dangerous, but guilty!!

Texting while driving IS dangerous!!! But I do it! As of making it illegal to text and drive, I think that is going a little to far. When the statistics say that some 80% of accidents are due to driver distractions, but texting while driving is among a hundred other distractions.
