Texting while driving is more dangerous than driving drunk.

The Dangers of TEXTING

Texting while driving is riskier than driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

The Dangers of DWT

Forget DWI. The big new traffic-safety issue is DWT: Driving While Texting.

One-fifth of experienced adult drivers in the United States send text messages while driving.

In 2008 almost 6,000 people were killed and a half-million were injured in crashes related to driver distraction.

At any given time during daylight hours in 2008, more than 800,000 vehicles were driven by someone using a hand-held cell phone.

4 out of every 5 accidents (80%) are attributed to distracted drivers this includes TEXTING. In contrast, drunk drivers account for roughly 1 out of 3 (33%) of all accidents nationally.

Texting while driving is about 6 times more likely to result in an accident than driving while intoxicated.

People who text while driving are 23% more likely to be in a car accident.

A study of dangerous driver behavior released in January 2007 by Nationwide Mutual Insurance Co. found that of 1,200 surveyed drivers, 73% talk on cell phones while driving. The same 2007 survey found that 19% of motorists say they text message while driving.

Texting while driving is just as, if not more, dangerous than driving drunk not only for the person driving, but for all people on road. Think about it. Is ANY text worth your life or the life of someone else? Texting while driving increases your risk of a crash by 20 times. So still wanna text while driving?

Guilty as charged...lol

I never truly thought bout how dangerous this is till I was reading this. Its truly amazing. I too am very guilty of texting while driving. I have caught myself many times almost rearending the vehicle ahead of me. I use to be able to text without looking at my phone, but since i have changed phones, its not that easy...lol. I think that its a good thing they have made texting for semi-truck drivers illegal, but as for regular vehicle drivers, I'm a lil unsure as to how I feel with the poll question at hand. But for now, I am "GUILTY AS CHARGED" for texting while driving.
